July 15, 2020

Summer has fully set in and although the warm weather is amazing sometimes the heat can get to you. I know where I live the humidity and heat has been insane which can leave me feeling pretty crappy some days. To combat this there have been a number of hacks which I’ve been doing that have helped tremendusly! Now I am able to enjoy working outside and not worry about the sun, sleep cool at night and even enjoy my icecream without defrosting! 🙂

Since I am a DIY blog, I am always on the prowl for new and innovative ways to make life easier and these hacks are definitely some of my faves. Everything from natural mosquito repellent to frozen snacks to cool you down, i’ve got ya covered.

Heat got you feeling down? Try out these hacks and you’ll be feeling spiffy again in no time.

#1: Coffee Ice Cubes

Make a pot of coffee, pour it into ice cube trays and freeze. Then when your iced coffee melts in the heat it won’t be flooded with water but instead more iced coffee.

#2: Freeze your favorite fruits

Frozen grapes, bananas, blueberries and tons of other berries can make the perfect frozen snack in the heat.

#3: Aloe Vera is your best friend

Either apply aloe Vera gel directly to sun burned skin or freeze it in an ice cube tray so it’s not just soothing but also cooling.

#4: Put dryer sheets EVERYWHERE!

In the summer we sweat, a lot. So our clothes tend to stink. But, to keep things smelling fresh put dryer sheets in your shoes, clip them to your fan, or on air conditioner vents to keep your place smelling great!

#5: Baby Powder can be used other ways

Ever get sand in places you don’t want sand to be! Simply rub talc free baby powder on your sandy body after a day at the beach and the sand will come right off.

#6: Invest in a mini fan for your phone

Phone fans are all the rage and for good reason. No matter the time or place with one click your phone can be turned into a mini fan as well! Amazon sells these awesome products that easily clip into your phone charging socket (on your phone) and there you have it, a fan! Shop HERE.

#7: Put your ice cream in a Ziploc baggies

Put the ice cream tub in a large Ziploc bag to keep it soft and ready to eat at a moments notice. No need to wait for it to defrost. 🙂 Icecream is a must in the summer.

#8: Juicing 101

Juicing vegetables such as carrot, celery, apples….. is a great way to keep your health 100%! The heat can take a toll on your body but by staying healthy you will be able to recover faster. Plus juicing helps knock a few pounds off if you’re looking to loose some quarantine weight.

#9: Use cupcake liners for melting ice pops

Simply put a hole in the middle of a cupcake liner, slide the popsicle stick into the middle of that cupcake liner and voila, now when your ice pop drips it won’t cause a mess.

#10: Freeze pillow cases

Stash a few pillow cases in a sealed bag into the freezer for a few hours and slip them on before you hit the hay. You’ll be surprised at how cool they keep you at night. Now no more having to turn the pillow over every 5 minutes to find the cool side. 🙂

#11: Wear your hair up

Wear your hair up as much as possible in the heat. It will help keep your neck cool and will help prevent your hair from getting sweaty and then needing to wash it again.

#12: Bucket hats are cool!

Bucket hats, sun hats, baseball caps, whatever you fancy, this head gear is one of the best ways to keep the sun off your face so you don’t get sun burned and it will also help keep you cool. Plus, sun hats are making a comeback so you’ll fit in perfectly with this seasons fashion trends.

#13: Grill baby grill!

It’s too hot to use the oven so instead grill! You’ll be surprised with just how much you can use your grill for. Hamburgers, veggies, corn, bread (yes, you can make bread on your grill), potatoes, meats and so much more! Give the oven a rest this summer. But, if you do need to use it then position a fan near it to help keep the hot air blowing outside.

#14: Make your own mosquito repellent

Combine vanilla extract and water and spray onto skin for a natural mosquito repellent. The perfect way to keep those annoying bugs away.

#15: Keep bugs out of your drinks

Put an upside down cupcake liner over top your drink to keep pesky bugs out of it!
