My favorite Summer reads
Summer is here and one of my absolute favorite things to do is read. Ever since I was young I have loved to pick up a book and start reading. Hours would go by and there I stayed perched on the Barnes and Noble window sill in my own world.
Some of the best things about reading are that one day you can be fighting a dragon alongside Harry Potter and the next afternoon watching Allie and Noah find their way back to each other. The possibilities are endless. There are so many books out there waiting for you to pick them up, open those book smelling pages, and read.
Seeing as most of the world is now on Summer break, I wanted to share my favorite books which have been keeping me company while I am off from school. Hopefully they too will spark your eyes and you’ll want to give them a read.

I first read this book when I was on vacation 3 years ago and each year I find myself coming back to it. I’ve recommended it to just about all my friends and family so now I’m suggesting it to you.
This heart warming book is a sequel to the New York times best seller, A Dog’s purpose. It is about a dog named Buddy who searches for his purpose in life through several reincarnations. Each time he dies he is reborn so that he can find Clarity and protect her, and each time you will fall deeper and deeper in love with the book. It’s a happy tale that is more than just heartwarming. It’s an endearing story which shows that love and loyalty crosses all barriers.

If you saw the movie like 3/4 of the world did, then you need to read the book. While I was on vacation I spotted this read as I was passing the book store. It caught my eye because of the #1 New York Times bestseller sign printed across it. So I decided to give it a read because New York Times bestsellers are usually good books to read.
Not gonna lie, most books usually take me a few pages to get into/ understand, but this book was the opposite. From the first printed word to the last it captured my attention all the way through. With all the laughs I laughed along, with all the cries I sobbed too. If you enjoyed the movie then this is a must read for you this summer. I guarantee you will not regret it.

Unlike most people, I actually watched the Great Expectations TV series before reading the book, and I have to say that it was a good idea. Since this book is on the more advanced scale of reading I would suggest that anyone looking to read it watches the series starring Douglas Booth as Pip because it was very accurate to the book, portrayed well, and a great watch.
I first stumbled upon this book because it was on the ‘need to buy list’ for my Summer courses. Based on the reviews my classmates told me and on how Dickens writes, I was nervous to read the book. I thought I would have difficulty understanding the way Dickens writes and that I wouldn’t fully understand the message he was trying to get across. But, to my surprise, I was wrong. Right from the start of the book I fell in love with not just the story but the characters as well. At times I would be so into the book that I felt as if I was walking with Pip in the marshes, or through the town.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to challenge themselves this summer and expand their reading library. The story is so captivating and very accurately ย portrays life during in 19th century England.

The more I read the more interesting this book became.
Ever since I was a young kid I have loved fairy tales. Well, come to think of it, most little kids do. The imagination and that every possibility/dream can come true is why I love them. The carpet can fly, the prince will find her shoe, the Fairy godmother turns her rags into riches…. That is why this book captivated me so much. Many times I found myself reading 50- 60 pages in a sitting then another 50 before bed. A second eye catcher for me was that it is not your typical fairy tale. There were twists and turns and WOW moments that grabbed my attention from the first sentence. It is an easier read but that doesn’t mean people of all ages can’t enjoy it. It opens your imagination and brings the little kid inside you alive. Will she find the prince? What will happen? It makes you think, is this real? You’ll feel as if you are running with Delilah through the pages as she races to find the prince who caught her eye.
Jodi Picoult is an award winning author whose books have been on the New York Times bestsellers list multiple times. Even if this book isn’t for you be sure to check out her other stories because there is a whole world of imagination out there waiting for you to pick up.

This has to be one of the most talked about series to date. All around the world whenever you mention Harry Potter they either rave about the books or can’t stop talking about the movies.
I was a late comer to the books because I saw the movies first. For me it was love at first sight. The minute The Sorcerers Stone started on the big screen was the moment I fell in love. From that point on I have been captivated by the tales of Harry, Ron and Hermione and their adventures through Hogwarts.
If you or your child are looking for the absolute perfect series to read together or by yourselves, then this is the best place to start. You really cannot go wrong with these books because the values and life lessons you learn throughout will stay with you forever. They aren’t just books about fighting the evil dark Wizard, they tell the tale of friendship and how three different people with different backgrounds became the best of friends.

This was another ‘must read’ book in order to qualify for English honors, so as many would feel, I went in not wanting to read it. The last thing someone wants is to be told ‘you have to read this book.’ But as I’ve mentioned with a few of these reads, a few pages in and I was hooked. I won’t spoil anything but Wang Lungs story is just spectacular. If you are looking for an easy, delightful, and well written book, then this one is for you.
My best guess would be that the story takes place between 1839 (beginning of the first opium war) and 1931 in China. The main theme in the book is that China is changing and we see how Wang Lung and the people in his life change with it. It’s a simple story yet has managed to capture the minds of people of all ages and it’s clear why. It’s not only a story about Wang Lungs life but it also shows the changes happening in China. You feel as if you are going along with Wang Lung and are right by his side as he makes his way through life.

I talked the talk on all the books so you may be wondering, what is her favorite book? I honestly don’t have one favorite because it’s tied between two books, The Good Earth and Great Expectations. Both stories are my favorites to read whenever I have nothing new to pick up or am just looking for a really high quality read. ๐ They are very different yet in some way the same.
Have you read any of these books? If yes then leave a comment below. Also, if you have any books you think I would like leave your thoughts below.
Thank you for reading today’s post. I will be posting every day this week so be sure to come back tomorrow for a new blog post at 7 a.m EST ๐
