The Best Gluten Free Fall Food at Trader Joes – Food Review

September 14, 2020

This post is not sponsored by Trader Joes

Trader Joes is one of the most unique places to buy foods. Everything from butternut squash pastas to mango and pepper chutney spreads, you can find some truly unique products here. One thing in particular that I am so happy about is that over this past year they have worked on expanding their gluten free food selection which bodes well for me since I can’t eat gluten. They have also begun adding new vegan foods as well!

When I was at Trader Joes this past Friday I saw all their Fall foods out and realized that I should do a food review of their gluten free selections since my previous post “my top 6 favorite items at Trader Joes” did so well! So, I bought just about every gluten free fall item they were selling, came home and dedicated my weekend to food testing.

Now, there are probably a few food items I missed on my adventures around the store due to just not seeing them. So when I go back next Friday I will glance around to see then come back and update this post.

Note: This post is not sponsored by Trader Joes. All the reviews are based on my own opinions. This post only contains gluten free fall items from Trader Joes so this is not their whole collection.

Trader Joes Pumpkin O’s – Gluten Free, Low Fat, Vegan – 8/10

diylifestyle.co

There is not an overwhelming amount of pumpkin flavor but there’s just enough to give you the fall feels plus I noticed there’s a bit of a cinnamon spice to them. Overall, I would buy again since they were good.

Pumpkin Spice Coffee – Medium Roast – 9/10

Their signature pumpkin coffee comes in single serve cups for a Kureig and a large whole bean tub that is pre- ground. There’s not an overpowering pumpkin flavor which is one reason I love this so much. It pairs perfectly with oat milk and there’s just enough of cinnamon, clove and ginger spices to make this coffee one of my new favs. I highly suggest buying if you’re store has any more left!

Spicy Pumpkin Curry – Gluten free – 7/10

diylifestyle.co

I wasn’t the biggest fan of this because it didn’t pair well with the dish I made it with so I am going to try it again and prepare it a different way. I don’t recommend using this with peppers or zucchini because it gave them a strange taste but maybe with some pasta or chicken it would pair nicely.

Overall, on it’s own the pumpkin flavor was spot on and the curry gives it a nice kick. If you like the flavor of straight pumpkin then you will like it.

Harvest Blend Herbal Tea- Caffeine Free – 6/10

diylifestyle.co

I have tried to like this but the flavors just don’t work for me. I prefer simple tea’s like honey and lemon and this was just a bit to strong. Picture a room filled with cinnamon, nutmeg and all your classic fall harvest flavors, that’s what this tea tastes like so if you’re for that then you will LOVE this!

Pumpkin Spice Rooibos – 8/10

diylifestyle.co

This tea was not too strong and had a pleasant taste. Once again, the same as the other products, the pumpkin flavoring was not too strong as was the other spices. I paired it with some honey and the combination was wonderful. I also tried this cold with some oat milk and I thought the taste got even better.

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Spread- 9/10

diylifestyle.co

If you’ve ever had a pumpkin whipped topping or pumpkin mousse that’s exactly what this tastes like. It was absolutely delish and had such a nice pumpkin flavor that was not strong so you’re bagel won’t be over powdered. I will definitely buy again.

Pumpkin Ice cream – 10/10

diylifestyle.co

This was everything I was looking for. The pumpkin flavor was rich and creamy and the ice ceram was sooooooooo amazing. I was hesitant at first because pumpkin and ice cream doesn’t seem like a winning combination but I was wrong! They also give you a really nice serving of it. I will definitely be paring this with my gluten-free apple pie or gluten-free cinnamon rolls.

Maple Sea Salt Kettle Corn – Gluten free – 10/10

diylifestyle.co

I went into this bag with high hopes and came out extremely happy. It was everything I was hoping for. The maple flavoring came through and the sea salt flavors makes this the perfectly sweet and salty snack. Picture maple candy with a hint of sea salt.

Pumpkin spice Granola Bark – Organic, Gluten Free – 5/10

diylifestyle.co

I was not a fan of this for two reasons. One, I don’t like pumpkin seeds so I went in already doubting and two I don’t’ like dark chocolate. The only thing I did somewhat enjoy was the pumpkin spice flavoring. But, if you are a fan of pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate then I think you will enjoy this.

Pumpkin bread and muffin baking mix – Gluten Free – 10/10

diylifestyle.co

Pumpkin bread is a staple during the Fall/Holiday’s and now you have the perfect mix to make it! Every year this is one of my favorites and it never disappoints. You can’t go wrong with it since the pumpkin flavoring is perfect and it’s so easy to make.

Gluten free Pumpkin Pancakes – 10/10

diylifestyle.co

At least 3 times a week I make these and add chocolate chips to the mix. They are by far my favorite thing from their fall food selection and something I recommend everyone buying. I cannot begin to express how much I love these! Every year I buy 6-8 boxes just so they will last me through the winter and into the summer. If there is one thing I think you should buy from their fall food section it’s this pumpkin pancake mix.

Have you tried any of these? If yes then leave a comment below telling me your favorite or which one you’re going to try! 🙂

If you liked this post then you may enjoy these

Thank you so much for reading today’s post! Have a great week. 🙂

Very envious from across ‘the pond’. I love visiting Trader Joe’s every time I’ve been over to the states to visit family. This Thanksgiving range looks amazing, the Kettle corn chips look delicious, will have to look on with envy at all the great food over tehre.

Trader Joes is one of my favorite places to food shop. The food items they have there are so unique and really cannot be found anywhere else. It’s a bummer about not being able to visit the states this year but there’s always next year!

I’ve been buying 6-8 boxes of their pumpkin pancake mix every year since it came out (it’s maybe year 5 now?) – it’s the best although another mix I recently discovered and love just as much is from josie’s best- pancakes come out just like what I remember at the pancake houses. Our favorite w/ the pumpkin mix is adding a mashed banana or some frozen blueberries.

How do you know the pumpkin ice cream is gluten free? It doesn’t say it on the container. Aren’t you concerned about cross contamination?

Excellent question! As someone who has celiac I am always worried about this and normally I would have done some research into the ice cream to ensure it was safe but one of the workers at the Trader Joes near me also has celiac. I asked her about the ice cream and she said she has no problems with it and has been eating it for a bit and has no issues. This is why I knew I would be okay and also why I shared it on my list. But, normally I do a bit of researach into products that don’t say gluten free but have no gluten or wheat in the ingredients. I hope this answers your question. Feel free to ask anything else because I would love to help! 🙂
