11 Back to school hacks to make the year easier

August 26, 2019

Depending on where you live, some places have already started school. So, if you’re one of those schools then you’re probably preparing your kids for the new school year; and what’s a better way to start off a new school year than with ease and no stress. 🙂

Since I have been through many years of schooling I thought it would be a helpful idea for me to compile a list of school hacks to make the school year easier.  Over the years i’ve come up with my own little tips which I think will be perfect for any age, grade or schooling situation (public, private, homeschool).

Before getting into the post I do want to thank you for being patient while I move into college. I’ve been lacking my blog these past few weeks due to much stress surrounding the start of college but since things are beginning to settle down I can finally devote time to my blog again! 🙂

Erase pencil marks using your lunch.
Tear a little bread off the sandwich in your lunch sack and use it to erase your pencil marks.

Fact: Apparently bread was used to erase graphite before the rubber eraser was invented.

Attach your papers together without a stapler.

Grab a sharp knife or a pair of scissors and cut a small slot through the corner of your stack of papers (it needs to go through all of them). Then fold the corner of the stack over and through the slot. It is not the most secure solution, but it sure is better than just folding over the corner and hoping it holds.

Make grilled cheese on parchment paper

Before you cook up a grilled cheese sandwich after school (because let’s face it—school lunches are deeply unsatisfying), line your frying pan with parchment paper and then cook on the lowest setting. Why? No dishes to clean up, and you can get right back to your homework.

Do Homework right away

Something most kids don’t want to do when they arrive home is go straight to homework. But, I cannot stress enough the importance of this. One reason being that all the information you’ve learned during the day is still fresh in your brain. Also if you finish your homework early then you have the rest of the night to watch tv and relax.

Breakfast is the most important meal

One thing which I struggled the most with in High School was eating breakfast. I was always so tired from the night before with my loads of hw that I would sleep in to the last second and then would have to rush out the door. So, my biggest tip: even just eating a granola bar or piece of fruit that you can grab on the way out is so beneficial. It will wake your brain and start those cells firing!

Snacks for the win

I am a big snacker. Once I started eating breakfast regularly I noticed how much less moody I would be. My thoughts were clearer, I had more energy, and I smiled more. In addition to eating breakfast I also highly recommend snacking some time thoughout the day to keep your body fueled and awake.

Study with the quizlet app

Skip using the paper flash cards this year and instead go paperless! Download the quizlet app for an awesome studying experience!

Use Caribeaners to keep hair ties together

Attach your hair ties to a carribeaner so they won’t get lost in your backback

Create a checklist

So many people have different opinions on checklists but I think they are great! They are so helpful and remind me what needs to be done. Create a checklist for the mornings so you never forget something on your way out the door.

Visit here for an example.

Plan out a weeks worth of clothes ahead of time

Plan out that weeks outfits on Sunday so you won’t need to worry about spending the extra 10 minutes on your hair or makeup, because your outfit will all ready be done.

Screenshot your schedule and set it as your lock screen

The first day of school is always stressful so why not try to alleviate some of that stress by making the day a tad easier. Here’s what to do. Take a screenshot of your class scedule and set it as the lock screen on your phone. That way you won’t need to rumage through your backpack to find the list or look online. Turn on your phone and there it is.

Meal prep snacks & lunches

Prep you/your kids lunch and snacks the night before so during the hectic morning that is one less thing you’ll have to worry about.
