Spring cleaning 101- clean the right way, the clean way
Happy Sunday folks, it’s DIY Lifestyle here delivering straight to your phones cleaning hacks to use for Spring, Summer, really whenever you need a nice deep clean.
Sunday’s are the perfect day to clean the home. It starts your week off right and is the perfect way to relax your mind. Ever since I was a wee lassie I have found such relaxation in cleaning my house. I clearly remember that my favorite aisle at the supermarket was the cleaning isle with all the supplies, normal, right? For a 5-year-old kid! LOL.
There are so many brands that clean different items, materials, grades, it’s crazy and can be kind of overwhelming when someone walks down and just wants a simple counter cleaner but see’s “Eco friendly (really?)” “The best cleaner ever (seriously?) “$20 dollars for a bottle of couch wipes (WHAT!!!) .” But there is no need to feel overwhelmed because today I am sharing helpful cleaning hacks so you can skip right over that aisle and the insanity. 🙂 Instead, use vinegar, baking soda, lemons and…. sorry, but I can’t spoil all of the tips I shared. 🙂 You will just have to read the post 🙂
ENJOY 🙂
Cleaning hacks
Skip the expensive store cleaners and try these instead!
Clean Your Microwave with Lemons
At-least once in your life you have had to of put something in the microwave and have it explode. It’s a catastrophe, right! You try those store cleaners which usually work but they can become very pricy. Before resorting to the store washers try out this in-expensive cleaning hack.
Put lemon slices into a cup of water and heat until the water starts to boil. Once the water starts boiling, turn off the microwave and let it sit for a few minutes, filling the inside with steam. Remove the hot water and you’ll be able to wipe the inside of the unit without difficulty.
Clean Your Mattress with Vodka
Cleaning your mattress is a very taxing task, especially because it is so large, so for most people it does not fit in the washer.
Are you looking to remove old stains and give your mattress the nice clean look it deserves, try this:
Put some vodka in a spray bottle and lightly spritz your mattress. Leave the spritzed vodka solution to air dry. While the solution dries, it will kill any odor-causing bacteria and will disinfect the mattress.
Remove Burn Marks From Pans
Burn marks on pans are the worst! A few to many times I have forgotten to take my saucepan off the stove and well you can guess what happened. One, it causes an awful smell and two, your pots are ruined. But wait, NO they are NOT!
Fill the bottom of the pan with water and add 1 cup of white vinegar. Let the pot simmer on the stove for 30 minutes, add more water if it boils away. Remove from the stove and add two tablespoons of baking soda. Let stand for a few minutes. Empty the pan and scrub lightly to remove the burn marks. Voila! Presto! Clean at last!
Deep Clean The Dishwasher
Clean the object that does the cleaning.
Who would have thought? Certainly not me. I thought it was enough of a clean to put the dishes in there and wash, wash, wash. To my surprise, the inside of your dishwasher should be regularly cleaned.
Here is how: Fill a container with white vinegar and place on the top rack. Run your dishwasher on its hottest cycle. After the cycle is complete, sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom and run it again on a short, but hot, cycle.
Fix That Slow Drain in Your Bathroom Sink
Nothing is worse than a slow drain. Now, if your drain is severely backed-up then this hack may not work and you may have to take a trip to the store and pick-up some go old-fashioned drain-o. But, before that you can try this hack!
How to: Drop four Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain, followed by one cup of distilled vinegar. Wait ten minutes, and then rinse the sink with hot, hot water. Repeat if necessary.
Remove Carpet Stains
Spilling wine on your carpet or juice for my younger readers is the worst. Especially since it is never near the edge near the wall, it always lands in the middle of the room, which is so annoying. Before resorting to oxi-clean which always works, haha! Try this hack out to save some money.
Spray your carpet stain with a mixture of 2 parts water with 1 part vinegar. Cover the spot with a damp rag, press on it with a hot iron set on the steam setting for roughly 30 seconds. Repeat until the stain disappears.
Sanitize your sponge
Clean the dish cleaner!
Interesting, right? Not many people think about cleaning a sponge. I personally never have because it cleans the dishes which go under warm water with soap. You would think that would be enough, but apparently not.
Wet your sponge and place in the microwave on high for 2 minutes. The sponge will be super hot so let it cool before removing from your microwave.
