How to have a delightful Thanksgiving when you're by yourself » Theresa Healey
Thanksgiving is creeping up quickly. Can you believe that it is only 2 days away! Crazy! Since I was a young kid Thanksgiving has always been my favorite Holiday. I love that you get to fix all your favorite foods, bake, relax, watch a Christmas movie, stuff your face and nobody will judge because that’s what Thanksgiving is for 🙂 …. but see how I didn’t mention anything about Family or friends gathering. Sure it’s a nice bonus to have them by your side but you really don’t need a crowd in order to have an enjoyable day. Unlike any other year, this Thanksgiving is shaping up to be on the smaller scale with many spending the Holiday by themselves. So if you’re feeling a bit blue about this then keep on reading because I compiled a few tips which will turn that frown upside down! 🙂 Fix what you love Whether this is by cooking your favorites – Apple pie {paleo}, Pecan Pie {gf, df}, a non turkey dish, vegan dish… ordering in from Boston Market :), playing your favorite board game, watching a must see Netflix show/movie or going for a hike/walk. So, turn on your favorite movie or show, there will a tons on for Thanksgiving, sit back, watch & relax! Or pop an oldie but a goodie into the DVD player, grab a plate of food and relax this way! 🙂 Must watch shows/movies on Netflix this year Order in If you really don’t feel like cooking AT ALL then hit up your local market, Boston Market, Hannafords, Shop Rite…. they all have ready to go meals that all you need to do is pop them in the oven! Quick, easy and mess free eating. 🙂 Catch some ZZZ’s One thing that people who host Thanksgivings can never do is catch some zzz’s. They are constantly bustling around the kitchen doing this and that and never having time to relax. Well guess what, you don’t need to worry about that. So use this time to really enjoy the day. Weather that’s by sleeping in or just lounging around in your pj’s all day. The whole day is yours, so enjoy it. 🙂 Do a good deed Chances are in your neighborhood there lives an elderly couple. If this is the case then stop in and bring them a Thanksgiving meal all ready to go or help them out with something else they might need doing. Be good to yourself As I’ve said before, I will say it again. Be good to yourself. There are a number of reasons why you may be spending this day alone. Maybe you’re married but are just taking a little break. Or maybe you’ve just moved across the country and have yet to meet your people. Or maybe you’ve just lost a loved one and will be by yourself for the first time. Whatever the situation promise to be good to yourself. Don’t push anything you truly don’t feel like doing. And most importantly, have fun. Do something to make yourself smile and laugh. You deserve it.
