10 helpful hacks to help you get through the cold weather – blogmas day 3

December 14, 2019

On the 3rd day of blogmas DIY Lifestyle gave to me, hacks to help you get through the cold weather.

Cold weather is a thing of the past with these cold-weather hacks. Let’s face it. The cold weather can be a real downer on people, especially if you don’t like the winter, then it’s a nightmare! And I feel ya. I love the winter, the snow, the cold, for me the colder the better. But I do have those days where I just want to be in shorts on the beach drinking a lemonade. So, I compiled a list of my favorite ways to get through these headache of a days.

Ward off the common winter cold

Being sick isn’t fun. But something about getting sick during the winter adds a whole new never of annoyance to the issue. So my favorite ways to make myself feel better are with these cold and flu remedies.

Waterproof shoes

We all have that pair of shoes that we wear through all the seasons. But unfortunately for me, and probably many others, these shoes are sadly not waterproof. They are made of canvas and once canvas gets wet it becomes gross, that’s the only way to describe it. So I’ve found this extremely helpful way to waterproof canvas shoes with wax!

Lights… action

One tip which I find extremely helpful is to light a few candles. Whether they are scented or not is up to you, depending on your fragrance preference. Just by lighting candles, it will bring warmth and light into your home. If you like scents then buy your favorites, so when you’re feeling the winter blues you can light them up and they will soothe you.

Snow if your new BFF

Party hack- I recently came up with this genius hack for anyone hosting a party during the winter! Even though you may despise the snow it will quickly become your best friend. If you’re hosting a party, instead of putting all the drinks needing to be cooled in the fridge, where they will take up tons of space, stick them in the snow or outside for a few minutes and they will cool right down. Simple and it’s something most people in North America have lying around outside!

Bike in all conditions

If you’re a biker then this hack is for you! Don’t stop biking in the winter because of a little thing called ICE; the invisible frozen water enemy that makes driving and walking a nightmare! Instead, show ice who is boss and use this zip tie tire treads for biking in the snow.

Bring more heat into your house

For most, it might be too late to use this hack, but save it for next year because you’re gonna want to remember it. When the fall comes and it’s time to pick up your leaves, make a few piles and put the leaves into large garbage bags. Then place these garbage bags full of leaves around the outside of your house in the back or where you have room. This will insulate your house even more from the cold because the leaves add an extra layer of warmth so you’re not using heat as much which in turn saves you money!

Winter window washer fluid

If you’re worried about your window washer fluid freezing or not working properly during those 5 below days then wipe that worry from your mind because I’ve cracked the code. What liquid can resist the freezing temperatures? The answer is high proof vodka or 99% alcohol.

Steps: Pour 8 ounces of either alcohol or vodka in an empty and clean 1-gallon jug. Fill it with water leaving room for an ounce of Castile liquid soap. Add the soap, mix, and pour the homemade windshield washer fluid into the correct area.

Save your windshield wipers

We’ve all had those days when you’re running late and go to start the car but realize your windshield wipers are frozen to the windshield. To avoid this simply:

Stick your windshield wipers in the air and cover them with old socks. This way your wipers won’t stick to your windows.

It’s an ingenious hack for your car!

Socks are the new shoes

Socks are one of my favorite shoes. Yes, you read that right. When I’m home that’s all I wear around, no shoes. 🙂 Since the cold can have your feet feeling a little, well cold, then make these upcycled sweater slipper boots. They’ll keep your footsies nice and toasty.

Your DIY hand warmers

Keep your hands just as toasty as your feet this winter by DIYing these easy to make hand warmers.

That’s it for today’s blogmas day 3 post.

Thanks for tuning in and I’ll see you tomorrow for blogmas day 4.

Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah!

How ya feeling today?!
